PAGE + RULE SET
Officiating - Every match will have designated rule czars who will on his/her honor uphold the integrity of the page + ruleset and call a unbiased game. In the event of any decision making scenarios teams may plead their case to the rule czar by directly referencing this text to prove their case , any rules cited not listed in this text will void their argument any lobbying must not derail tournament proceedings and exceed a maximum of 2 minutes after 2 minutes the rule czar on his/her own interpretation of the page + ruleset will make a final decision which can only be undone by a grand czar for the sake of the tournaments continued progression the rule czar may explain his reasoning for transparency but this must not exceed 1 minute.
If at any point a rule czar is confused they can elevate and consult a grand czar for advice.
Challenge flag - Once per game a team may initiate a challenge if they disagree with the ruling on a previous play a grand czar will be notified and make their decision which is final.
Serve - Serve must be decided at the beginning of each match . Serve is Determined by each team taking turns shooting one shot until one team sinks a cup in the event both teams make a shot the rally is continued until one team misses a player cannot take two consecutive shots to determine serve their partner must always attempt the next shot when it is their turn again ( for tournaments larger than 30 ppl serve is decided via rock paper scissor for time conservation purposes )
Shooting - Players May shoot simultaneously or one at a time , during their turns they must remain behind the designated marksman point in the event a shot is taken past the designated point the shot must be retaken . Repeated violations on the same turn will result in a forfeiture of that turn. In shooting phase players may take any legal shot allowed within the page plus rule set
Air Balls - During shooting phase if the player taking the first shot , shoots and the ball fails to makes contact with the table or a cup it is considered an airball the ball must be clearly beyond the table boundary. If the opposing team calls airball before the second player shoots the second shot , the player must forfeit their shot ending possession. The only exception to airball ruling is on island and redemption in which airballs does not affect possession.
Celeb shots - Not legal in Regulation play.
Trick shots - a trick shot must be a shot of enhanced difficulty a trick shot is awarded when a player retrieves a ball after it was shot & before that ball was retrieved by the other team , or before the ball made contact with the ground in the event of a third party making contact with that ball , the ball is instantly ruled dead and its possession given to the opposing team unless a third party intentionally makes contact with the ball for the purpose of preventing a retrieval in which the ball will be given back to the team that shot it.
Legal trick shots :
long distance (three steps back from the marksman point )
Back turned (ball thrown over the back )
Bounce ( the ball can be bounced of any non moving or living surface as long as it’s shot at the marksman point
Eyes closed ( shooter closes eyes a makes one full rotation and a step back from the marksman point )
Bounces - a bounce is defined as a ball hitting the table surface or a non living item before making contact with a cup , however in the event during a non bounced shot the ball hits the rim of a cup or multiple cups bounces up or rolls into a different cup from the cup that it went into this also counts as a bounce. All bounces count for 2 cups unless the ball bounced on the same cup in went into and no other cups this is not consider a bounce and only counts for one. The cup that the ball went into must be removed and then any other cup of the team who conceded the cups choosing ( In the event a ball hits a players body part and goes in , this also counts as a bounce so long as the ball was not intentionally manipulated by the team that shot it or a third party )
Interference - Interference is defined as any action which directly prevents the opposing teams ball from making contact with a cup.
Light interference - Influencing a ball or moving a cup after the opposing team has shot and before ball is giving a chance to make contact with a cup this results in a reshot because whether or not if the ball was likely to make good contact can’t be determined.
Major interference - major interference occurs when a player influences a ball/cup that was more likely than not going to make good contact this result In the loss of a cup.
Whether an interference is ruled light or major is up to the discretion of the rule czar.
Island - in page plus rule set an island can be called when there is a single cup not touching a set grouping of other cups that are touching one another. In order to activate island a player before they shoot must declare island once it is acknowledge by the ref or the opposing team island is in play , each player is granted one island call per game , if an island is sunk whatever was designated island all those cups are removed. Islands can be removed at any time by the opposing team as long as island has not been declared this is considered a sacrifice if you remove island after island has been called this counts as the island being sunk . In the event a same cup island is hit , the shot counts for 3 balls plus the cups credited for island.
Multiple Islands: If you and your partner sink multiple islands in the same cup on the same turn, then you will get 3 additional cups added onto the island cups that have been credited as sunk.
Bouncing Island: If you or your partner go for a bounce on your island call and get it, you will receive all the island eligible cups plus an additional 2 for a bounce.
Death cup - A death cup occurs when after a shot is made the opposing team fails to remove the cup before the beginning of the next turn. In the event the team then sinks that cup again the game is immediately over , However a death cup can be removed at anytime before it is sank , if at any point the team realized it was supposed to be removed the rule czar is not obligated or technically allowed to notify the opposing team if they forget to remove a cup the other team also does not have to notify the opposing team that they have a death cup , but can do so if they choose. In the event a bounce shot creates a death cup the cup that counts as a death cup would be the one it went into as well as any other cup on the board since during a bounce two cups must be removed. In the event of an island death cup all the cups qualified as island eligible would have to be removed. In the event of a same cup death cup , death cup counts for the cup both balls went into as well any other cup on the board since 3 cups must be removed for same cup. In the event there is a challenge to a death cup ruling the rule czar may review the footage to confirm wether or not cups were appropriately removed.
Rearrange: during the match each team is allocated one rearrange per game, this can be taken at any time, except on balls back.
Formations: when rearranging you cannot exceed the cups per row, for example having 4 front cups in a row, or 4 cups in the second row, the formation must match the rows of cups, for 6 cup 3-2-1, for 10 cup, 4-3-2-1
While the opposing team is rearranging your cups you cannot shoot.
Redemption: when your last cup has been sunk, you and your partner are entitled to each have one redemption shot to stay in the game, you will have to sink one cup per redemption.
Stacking Redemptions: Redemptions can be stacked they are relative to different game conditions.
Stacking examples :
You have one cup left , the opposing team hits same cup on your last cup , same cup counts for 3 but there is only one cup therefore you're on two redemptions.
You're on last cup ,the opposing team hits same cup , you're on 2 redemptions. They get balls back because they both made a cup , they both hit the same cup again that's 5 redemptions , because same cup is 3 and you were already on 2 redemptions. If only one them had made the shot after the balls back it be 3 redemption because you were on 2 redemptions and on their balls back turn they sunk one more making it now 3 redemptions.
You have 2 cups left opposing team hits one cup and bounces into another. Thats one cup gone for the normal shot , two gone for the bounce since you only had two cups but conceded 3 cups your on 1 redemption . On their balls back turn , they sink same cup that's an additional 3 redemptions on top of the 1 you already have making it now 4 redemptions.
Multiple redemptions: if your team has to sink more than one redemption the multiplier rules are in effect, for example if you need to get 4 redemptions, then you can sink the same cup (counting as 3) and then your team will get balls back to try and get 1 more cup to stay in the game. If you needed 3 redemptions you can bounce as well for two and sink a normal shot to make it 3 (ask about if they get balls back for both hitting a cup needing 3 plus redemptions)
Time Limit: During regulation matches there will be a 15 min time limit per game to maintain tournament pace. If the time limit is reached whichever team has the most cups remaining will be the winner, in the case of a tie SUDDEN DEATH next cup wins with no redemptions will take pace. Whichever team started the match will shoot first, but only one shot at a time per side.
Defense
Swatting - Once a ball makes contact with a surface and bounces off that surface into the air it can be swatted at any time by the opposing team
Cup Error: If you or your partner at any time during the match knock over a cup or remove a cup it is forfeited and counts as a cup made , if
a cup is knocked over during a bounce shot then that cup counts for two. If a cup is knocked over that was already sank before the end of the opposing teams turn that counts as same cup.
Self Cups: If you or your partner drop a ball into your own cups during your turn, it does not count UNLESS, there is a forward motion and the elbow is extended.
Self Bounce: if during your turn, your shot deflects and bounces in your own cup that counts as 2 cups forfeited, the cup the ball landed in and one cup of your choosing.
Harassment and abuse :
BBPA's harassment and abuse policy states excessive inappropriate behavior will result in a warning followed by disqualification for repeated offences,
we strive to encourage a competitive environment trash talk is allowed but within reason.
